Our horizons were broadened as we needed to understand and apply various technical tools, resources platforms and practical application scenarios to complete our project.”

A nationwide competition for college and university students

It has been the third time that Huawei Hong Kong organised the Huawei ICT Competition - Hong Kong Station. The global tech giant Huawei Technologies aims to use the competition as a platform for students to compete and exchange ideas, thus enhancing their ICT knowledge and practical skills as well as increasing their ability to innovate by using new technologies and platforms. The first Huawei ICT Competition was held in 2015. Since then, popularity of the competition has been growing rapidly with increasing number of participants and participating countries every year. The China Association of Higher Education (CAHE) has officially announced the Huawei ICT Competition as a nationwide competition for college and university students.

Currently open to registration, the 8th Huawei ICT Competition will be held nationally, regionally, and then globally. While national competitions have been held in different countries and cities since September 2023, the global final competition will be held in May 2024. The competition is divided into Practice and Innovation Competitions with Practice Competition being subdivided into the Network, Cloud and Computing Tracks, and the Innovation Competition including the AI Track.

The 7th Huawei ICT Competition attracted more than 120,000 students from over 2,000 universities in 74 countries and regions. After national and regional competitions, 146 teams and 429 college students from 36 countries and regions advanced to the global finals.

EdUHK and Huawei Hong Kong signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in May 2023 to jointly establish the ICT Academy in order to help nurture Information and Communications Technology (ICT) talent. Under the new collaboration framework, the two partner institutions will promote smart teaching through employing IT infrastructure, applying ICT technology in learning, teaching and managing, and exploring innovative applications of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in education. Certified training programmes will also be provided for EdUHK staff and students to foster holistic development.
